JERRY F. BENZL, M.D.

Jerry F. Benzl, MD is a board-certified psychiatrist in both Adult Psychiatry and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, with extensive experience providing compassionate, evidence-based care to children, adolescents, and adults.

Dr. Benzl earned his medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine and completed his general adult psychiatry residency at UIC in Chicago, followed by advanced fellowship training in child and adolescent psychiatry at UC San Diego, UC Irvine, and affiliated programs in southern California. He is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in both specialties.

Before medical school, Dr. Benzl completed dual bachelor’s degrees in Applied Mathematics and Economics at UC Berkeley, as well as a master’s degree in Mathematical Behavioral Science at UC Irvine. This unique background informs his thoughtful, analytical, and individualized approach to psychiatric care.

His clinical interests include mood disorders, anxiety, ADHD, trauma-related conditions, and complex psychiatric presentations across the lifespan. He is known for taking the time to understand each patient’s full story and for collaborating closely with patients and families to develop personalized treatment plans that balance medication management, psychotherapy, and practical life supports.

Dr. Benzl is licensed to practice medicine in Alaska and remains committed to ongoing education and ethical, patient-centered care. He is fluent in Spanish.
